EXP-001: Generic Prompt Test | AI Research Log

Experiment ID:

EXP-001

Category:

Prompt Design

Status: Completed

About This Research

This document records observations from a controlled prompt experiment. The findings apply to the documented test conditions and are intended to illustrate workflow behavior rather than establish universal conclusions applicable to all AI systems or future model versions.

Research Question

How do different types of added context affect the specificity and practical usefulness of AI-generated responses within a documented test session?

Objective

This experiment observes how different types of prompt context affect the specificity, practical value, and audience relevance of AI-generated responses. Rather than judging a single response, the goal is to observe how the model adapts when additional context is provided.

Prompts Used

Prompt 1

Explain AI Slop.

Prompt 2

Explain AI Slop with real examples.

Prompt 3 Explain AI Slop for SEO writers who publish AI-assisted content.

Results

PromptObserved Response Characteristics
Explain AI Slop.Produced a broad definition of AI slop and outlined its general characteristics without audience-specific context.
Explain AI Slop with real examples.Added practical examples that made the explanation more concrete and easier to understand while remaining broadly applicable.
Explain AI Slop for SEO writers who publish AI-assisted content.Tailored the explanation to a specific audience and included workflow-oriented guidance relevant to SEO publishing.

Key Observation

The responses became progressively more focused as additional context was added to the prompt. The first response provided a broad overview suitable for general readers, while the later prompts generated content that was more specific, practical, and aligned with a defined audience.

Research Finding

In this test session, responses generated with additional context appeared more concrete or targeted than the response generated from the generic prompt.

Key Takeaway: In this workflow, the responses with added context appeared more targeted and practical than the generic response.

Limitations

This experiment represents a single testing session using one AI model and three prompts. Results may vary depending on the AI model, model version, future updates, system instructions, or prompt design. These findings should be interpreted as documented observations from this workflow rather than universal conclusions.

Repeatability

This experiment was conducted in a single documented conversation using three prompts about AI slop. Repeating the same prompt sequence with different AI models, model versions, or testing conditions may produce different results.

Evidence

Evidence presented below consists of screenshots captured during the documented testing session.

Why this matters

This experiment illustrates how prompt context can influence the relevance of AI-generated responses. While the findings are limited to this workflow, they demonstrate why prompt design is an important variable when evaluating AI output quality.
